Can any of the Pals supply any information about the following:

James McGuigan, 43172, 8th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, KIA 9/9/16, born Duneane (Duneine, sic), Co Antrim

L/Cpl Samuel McGiugan, 4979, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, 11/11/1914, born (SNWM says)Antrim (maybe Co. Antrim?), Ireland

They may have been brothers.

Any help gratefully received.

I have found both soldiers on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC)website.
Soldier J is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial (Somme) and Soldier S on the Tyne Cot Memorial (Ypres),both having no known graves. The website sometimes gives parent or wife details, but on both of these entries there is none. I had hoped to assist you in deciding whether they were brothers. There is another way you can check and that is to ask for a look-up on the record called Soldiers Died in the Great War (SDGW). I don't have this facility, but some members here do.

Best wishes

I understand that Samuel McGuigan was born in Ballyclare, Co. Antrim in 1880, the son of Arthur McGuigan and Janet Burgess McGuigan. He lived in Juniper Green, Edinburgh, where most of his siblings were born. He was  my Granddad's cousin.
James, from Duneane, does not appear to be a direct relation, with Arthur's family being Presbyterians and James's family being Roman Catholics. I note there was a James McGuigan living in Tannaghmore, Duneane, County Antrim in the 1850's, according to Griffith's Valuation. I see that another post on the forum refers to the 1911 Irish Census and to James's address as Raglan St, Belfast.
