Full Version: The Artist in his Studio
Great War Forum > Miscellaneous > Forum Pals
Paul Reed
As some of you know, forum pal Soren Hawkes ('Soren1916') has recently moved to Ypres to do what many dream of, turning a hobby into a living. I recently had the pleasure of seeing him at work in his studio, which is only a couple of minutes walk from the Menin Gate, and indeed from his window you can see the Gate - what an inspiration! Soren and his wife Neelan are genuinely nice people, and made myself and a friend very welcome indeed on our visit. If you are ever at the Gate do pop in and see them - I'm sure we'd all like to support a Pal doing something like this and his work is something that really has to be seen.

Below the man at work!

Ozzie
I don't know what I more jealous of, him being so close to the Menin Gate, or his book collection!
You are right, Paul, he has talent.

Cheers

Hi Tom,

Not sure that I'm even a allowed to say anything anymore in this forum, I'll just say it's between 15 and 19.

I believe you can pick up a flyer in the Ypres tourist office. There was a notice on the front door as well, so you know you have the right place.

Soren - glad the move has finally come to fruition. Hope to still see you around at the Beltring and Detling shows? Otherwise I am sure our paths will cross again in Ypres.

Best wishes for life in Belgium!

Thank you Jonathan,

We will resume the 2 shows next year after we have settled in Ypres, in fact the Detling and Beltring shows are now hearer to us here in Ypres than when we lived in Bournemouth!

Cheers

Well Done for taking the plunge & living the dream.
Hope it pays off.
I had hoped to become a military illustrator but as it'll be my 20th Annivesary of joining Royal Mail on Friday you can see it didn't work out.
