Just to say that if anyone is in the area of Penrith on 14th August 2008...the Cumbrian branch of the WFA is holding a meeting in the British Legion in the town centre 1945 kick off......speaker is talking about 1918 and the Advance to Victory.......

And who is the distinguished speaker ?
Could it be someone too modest to advertise himself?

All I will say is that apparently the speaker is a semi regular and after his last visit there the Secretary stated that he gets attendances only second in number to Peter Hart......that's nice....following closely up PH's rear!

I can thoroughly recommend any talk given by Niall Cherry although I usually can't spell or remember his strange first name! Also the Cumbrian branch is made up of as nice a bunch as you could meet anywhere.
So come along to the British Legion on 14 August at 19.45 and you'll get the advance to victory, good chums and a cherry on top!

I just asked him how he pronounced it. Now I know.

Regret not as I'm going away the following week myself!
But not Great War activities regretfully......
As I said I seem to get invited to the Cumbrian branch every year.......probably looked on 'not a very good speaker' but he's cheap and turns up!
