There'll be an anniversary supplement on the surrender of the Hochseeflotte/High Seas Fleet in the November edition of Navy News. It's along similar lines to the Zeebrugge, March Offensive and Passchendaele supplements. The words are finished; there's just the small matter now of laying it out...

I had hoped to write one about the Royal Naval Division in the 100 days to victory but came up against a brick wall for first-hand sources unfortunately.

The whole supplement will be available online for free from around November 1. I shall post a link once it's ready. If you prefer the printed version, the paper should be out around October 28-29.

Hi Michael,

Glad you enjoyed it. I was keen to show that with all the focus on the 90th anniversary of the end of the war on the Western Front, the naval victory was most definitely decisive and was widely celebrated.

If I'm still here in six years' time, then the RND will return for the 100th anniversary of Antwerp.

Hope you're able to do both.
Thanks for Der Tag.

I've mentioned this before, but see no harm in repeating it
see CIGS Wilson's letter to Gen. Allenby, 7th Dec.1918

"...the blockade and the work of our sailors both in the Fleet and in the Merchantile Marine were also tremendous factors. The picture of this war that I have seen for a great many years now has been this:
The Boch had set his mind on two things:
(A) Command of the Sea
..................."

ref the RND: I hope that we're all here in six years' time

with best regards
Michael
