These are my guys (Note Packham died of HEART PROBLEMS)! -

Private 39480 Charles Victor SMITH. 35th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Died 2 May 1917 of Wounds (Fractured Skull sustained on active service) aged 39 years. Died at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, London. Home Residence - 25 Victoria Road, Milton Regis, Sittingbourne, Kent.

Found newspaper article. No entry Soldiers Died Great War. No trace Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Death certificate clearly states died of wounds sustained “On Active Service”.

Bombardier 121428 Albert Thomas PACKHAM. 36th (Reserve) Batterty, Royal Field Artillery (RFA). Died Mitral Aortic / Cardiac Disease (Heart Problem) 5 February 1919 aged 44 years. Death Certificate gives occupation as – Farm Labourer and Army Pensioner. Resided Coldharbour, Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent.

Enlisted 15 November 1915. Total War service : 2 years 213 days.

Albert had 6 children.

Served in France on active service throughout 1917 and 1918. Discharged (no longer fit for war service) at Edinburgh, Scotland 15 June 1918. Awarded a Disability War Pension valvular disease of the heart (VHD), by Ministry of Pensions. His service papers clearly show that the onset of his heart disease was attributable to his war service.

The Ministry of Pensions found in this mans favour and recorded the cause of his heart disease was attributable and aggravated by his war service. He died of the SAME disease 8 months later!

Private M2/202840 Edwin TICKNER. Army Service Corps (ASC). Died 26 May 1918 from Cavitating T.B at Keycol Isolation Sanatorium, Keycol, Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent aged 24 years. Son of Mr Edward T Tickner, Rodmersham Green, Sittingbourne, Kent. Edwin Resided 3 Albert Street, Whitstable, Kent.

Edwin was a Motor Driver by profession. Enlisted 10 December 1915 at Grove Park, London.

In April 1918 Edwin was assessed at the Military Hospital, Hounslow, London where it was confirmed he had terminal T.B. Admitted into Keycol Sanatorium straight from Hounslow Barracks, London which indicates that Edwin may even have been a serving soldier when he arrived there! Awarded a full disability war pension by the Ministry of Pensions in consultation with the Army Medical Board.

Edwin developed a cough in July 1917 whilst serving in the army. He went onto develop serious complications including coughing up blood and weight loss. The Army Medical Board judged that his condition WAS AGGRAVATED by his war service and he was awarded a 100% war pension.

ONLY 3 WEEKS AFTER DISCHARGE POOR EDWIN WAS DEAD!

Greetings Chris,

Proof indeed that no one should be telling anyone else to abort cases where men died of HEART PROBLEMS! As DOC2 pointed out, Heart problems can result from INFECTION. Those who gave this bad advice now know better....

From now on there is no excuse!

I hope you are well Chris and your important work going well?
