I purchased this photograph this morning, Italian in origin (obviously), with the caption:
NERVESA - il ponte sul Piave, - L'arrivo delle primo sezioni di miltragliafrici che incalzarono il nemico.

Interesting photo: the caption is along the lines of "Nervesa. The bridge across the Piave, the arrival of the first sections of miltragliafrici who chased the enemy."
A mitraglia was a machine gun. Africi could be African.

The right word is "mitragliatrici", and means machine guns (often abbreviated as "mitraglie"...."Mitraglia" is the singular)

Grazie Elena. I rarely get genders or plurals correct.

Interesting!
I remember I have seen a Then and Now at an Italian forum for this same spot!
