I may not be finding something already posted, but does anyone here have Albert Ball's service number? Want to have identity discs made for a re-enactment/display for the air show circuit.

in honour of Captain Albert Ball; scout pilot of valour, yes, but a Man of God first and foremost.

Glenn, Albert Ball was an officer, and officers didn't have numbers in those days.

Ah, that would explain my failure to even find a hint. And such a simple answer, LOL! I figured something much more complex, or just another case of my inefficiencies at research on the web. Thanks for he help.

To say Ball did not have a service number is not strictly true, he might not have had an Army number, but he had a RAF number. If you dig out his AIR76 at the NA you should be able to read his PI number (Personnel Index?), each Officer was allocated one. The RAeC number is the Royal Aero Club certificate number.

For example Charles Walter Palmer shot down by Max Immelmann on 2 March 1916 was PI 791 his RAeC number is 1497 dated 24 July 1915.

John Maxwell Warnock PI 8427 RAeC number 3587 9 September 1916

Wilfrid George Robinson Bailes PI 8199

Ferris Blundell Miseroy PI 22417
