Fellow Buffs Buffs and Kentish folk

With the closure of the Buffs Museum on Saturday I fear we have missed an opportunity. How nice it would have been to mark the event with a meal/drink and a final perambulation around the artefacts.

Is anyone up for a gathering sometime? I'm thinking of perhaps marking 'Black Saturday' by attending the turning of the page ceremony by one of the old Buffs in Canterbury Cathedral followed by a swift half in a local hostelry.

I could bring along the database to show anyone that's interested

I almost went down there last Saturday afternoon for a last look around. There had been a WW1 day at the Royal West Kent museum in the morning and getting wet again put me off the trip to Canterbury, but will try and join for the Turning of the Page.

If I wasn't up to my eyeballs, mate, I would come and join you. I'll be there in spirit.

Perhaps we should put our heads together to see if anything can be done about the future of this collection?

I don't think it'll get organised until the new year so hopefully things will have calmed down and you'll be able to join us. The future of the collection is assured because it's with the National Army Museum but I would be interested to hear any ideas about displaying it

Jon

How did it go on Saturday (I am envious of Maidstone's attitude)

It was good - OMRS had some medals on show as did a RWK collector - very interesting collections. There was some re-enactors who had a display stand. A wreath to 18 Div was laid at the cenotaph and one of the re-enactors played the Last Post extremely well (only one small hiccup) on the bugle used when 1st Bttn took and held Hill 60. I ended up doing my free research service for a lady interested in what her favourite uncle did - found his service record so quite lucky, and let me put together a detailed package of info her which I posted off.

Mick and Jon - let's meet up in the New Year to have a chat about this. And anyone else who is interested!
