Full Version: Somme 1916 = Mallins Film - for the 90th anniversary

I see most people were on BBC one last night but on the Military Channel(for those with SKY) they showed the Mallins film in its entirity - I have seen sections on a number of ocassions but never the complete film

No wonder they never showed films like this on the homefront again probably a little to real - although I can also undertsand why millions saw it in 1916

This is version has been re-digitised with a complete new sound track by the Royal Philamonic.

Now available from the IWM on DVD

Just got my copy delivered from Amazon, The accompanying booklet is interesting. The booklet gives you the web address so that you can download a pdf
booklet explaining about the film.

Not had time to watch the DVD yet

Cheers

Have the tape of Malins film , but my daughter picked it up a couple of years ago
on a working visit to UK and it has no booklet.

Would it be too much to ask for you to post the website for the download or PM me.

Many Thanks

Waiting for mine to be delivered. Looking forward to seeing it. Tried my hardest not to watch it on the Military Channel, but caught a small bit

Just got this today for my birthday. Been waiting for it for years. Looking forward to my next day off when I can watch it with the 'scene-by-scene' notes... biggrin.gif

I really enjoyed watching the whole thing. Having seen some of it as snippets, the whole is definitely better than the sum of the parts.

My previous criticisms of this DVD release are somewhat negated, as the missing viewing notes are now available on line. They weren't there when I bought it the day it was released !
