The Branch could not get in the Centre last night, the man with the keys had pulled a sicky. So the next branch meeting will be next week Wednesday 17th December 2008.

You could have nipped up to Warwick to hear my talk to the Heart of England Branch! Stretching the description "Western Front" to its limits (sounds of apoplectic Colonels ... what, what ... monocles flying out, etc) it was on the three German attacks on France in 1870, 1914 and 1940.

Interesiting to see the full list of talks. I was contacted at the IWM a while back with regard to giving a talk to the Surrey Branch on Salonika. Given date (can't remember this off top of my head) and told the speaker co-ordinator/secretary etc would contact me in near future to confirm. So far I've heard nothing and in any case it looks like I've now been sidelined - was ever so with the sideshows!!! Unless I am due to cover the June slot? Who knows!!!

Wednesday 16th September,Next Surrey WFA Meeting is Nick Cornish: The Lemberg Campaign 1914.
In Galicia in August and September 1914 three Austro-Hungarian armies clashed with four Russian armies in four main battles. Initial Austrian successes in the west were followed by a Russian victory that forced the Austrians to retreat back to the Carpathian Mountains, Nick will describe this little known but fascinating campaign.
