My research suggests my G/Grandfather was wounded during actions East of Monchy-le-Preux in Jul 1917 and became a POW and subsequently died from these wounds. I understand that the 5th Bn relieved the 9th Essex in part of their sector and launched an attack on enemy trenches in the area of O2.a.65.60 to O2.a.65.95. The Bn War Diary states " 'D' Coy of the Bn. carried out a small local attack with object of capturing continuation of LONG Trench opposite HOOK Trench and joining it up with MOUND SAP on right and HOOK SAP on left." I believe this area of ground to be due North from where LONG trench crosses Infantry Lane

I have been able to pinpoint Mound Sap using 9th Essex material for their own attack on LONG trench of 17 Jul 17; their map references for Mound Sap would appear to be from O2.d.4.5 to O2.d.5.5b adjacent to Infantry Lane. Can anyone confirm the location of Mound Sap and pinpoint HOOK Sap on a map or indeed identify the co-ordinates above that were assaulted by 5th R Berks on 19 Jul 1917.

Have answered my question with help from grandsonmichael who gave me correct co-ordimates from 9th Essex WD. Have now pinpointed final movements of G/Grandfather.
