Since a number of us have been having fun at the expense of the limp-wristed Southern softies and their attempts to organise a get-together, Ken Lees the Reeve has suggested that we try to organise a meet-up in our wapentake.

We have members spread over a wide area, from Anglesey, through Merseyside up to Burnley. At the risk of being a bit obvious,Liverpool is in the middle.
There are a number of Liverpool members, and some places and things to see.
Amongst the latter are the Kings' Museum at Pier Head, the new Chavasse statue in Abercrombie Square, the University memorial in the Victoria Building, the memorial in the old Liverpool Institute building (now Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts), the Roll of Honour in the Town Hall, plus a number of places/artefacts associated with WW2.

So...how do we feel about a Saturday....meet up for the afternoon....a troll around various places of interest, and then dine together somewhere (if we can come up with a private dining room in a pub!) and have a good chinwag?

Over to all of you, for your ideas and suggestions.

Bruce

But I wash my hair on Saturdays.

brucehubbard
Which one?

Dave or Brian?
brucehubbard
With this much interest, Ken.....might I suggest Ormskirk?
Steven Broomfield
London?

I mean, most ManUre and Liverpool fans have to travel up north for a home game: you'd be doing the same thing in reverse.
Stephen Nulty
Sounds like a plan to me!

General stroll about the place, perhaps Daggers might give us a presentation on the Town Hall Memorial. And let's not forget the Exchange Flags memorial behind the Town Hall.

Count me in

A splendid idea depending, of course, on prior engagements at Goodison Park

Now that rather complicates things!

I was loking to avoid Saturdays when my team are at home (although how often 3pm on a Saturday???), so now maybe have to take the Toffees into account too. Still.....I guess it takes all sorts!

Since Broomers interjected, I would point out that it is ManUre fans that live in Surrey, not those of us who follow teams on Merseyside.
Ken Lees
I'm open to any suggestions that don't make me blush.

And I don't mind who's playing at home. I'd rather have hot pins pushed through my eyes then watch any of 'em.

See, Bruce, I managed to keep that one clean!

Liverpool Town Hall? - OK by me, but perhaps not open on Saturdays - will check, if there is interest. The Cotton Exchange memorial 'Tommy' statue is also nearby and the Western Approaches museum [sh! WW2]... The Engine Room memorial and others at the Pier Head. I don't think there is any of the King's display open at present.

I'm keeping a watching brief on this one! Is it OK in principle if the boyos join in? After all 19th century Liverpool was half Irish, quarter Welsh and a quarter odds and sods!

North Wales again mellow.gif

...but it must only be 28% of match-goers living in Surrey then, as 72% live within a 30 mile radius of OT! dry.gif

If the boyos are attending, keep your hands on your valuables , wherever you may keep them rolleyes.gif

That doesn't apply to you of course Geraint.

brucehubbard
Any attempt to attend such a meeting without Ayesha would result in my being parted from some important parts of my anatomy....important, at least, to me!

Julie.....you will be very welcome, as will any more of the ladies.
However, be warned. Should Geraint attend. The word roue was invented to describe him!

Here is a little quiz to see who qualifies for the proposed North West assembly:

Who is the senior in rank of those 13, 000+ names on the Liverpool Town Hall Roll of Honour, and what is the qualification?

Answers on the back of a stamp or by the forum's quick reply, please. No prizes.

That's most gracious of you Colin! I might russle up some laverbread!
boysoldier
Many thanks Geraint, leeks in the post for your celebrations rolleyes.gif Fifi couldn 't bring them in person wub.gif

Colin.
brucehubbard
So if we manage to organise this get-together, will Fifi be coming too?

huh.gif
boysoldier
Unless the meeting is in Blackpool I doubt I will be able to make it , as for Fifi she will need someone to hold her hand if she decides to go without me , especially if "you know who" is going, any volunteers? No billiard table please. Where are the photo's of the last meet, dare Geraint release them for publication or is he claiming copyright. blink.gif

Colin.
brucehubbard
I can hear Geraint typing to volunteer even now............
boysoldier
Oh No.!!!! ohmy.gif
geraint
Fifi is eagerly awaiting this meeting. Seems that no date nor venue has been suggested as yet. (Unless you North Westerners are too cryptic for me!) Can I suggest an after Easter date?

Geraint
(Slapping my wrist for being so audacious as to make such a suggestion in so august company. But I think it'll be fine for the august company will smile benightedly at such a vulgar suggestion, but will understand that the horny-handed son of toil from the Land of Song will never aspire to equal status, and should therefore be benignly tolerated.)

I have printed off that last sentence. I'll keep it....for use as evidence later!

Registering interest but very busy from now through until end of June and might not be able to parade.

Hi just wanted to get things moving, bump it up to the top!
I am just very eager to meet you all
cheers julie rolleyes.gif
Ken Lees
I do hope you won't be disappointed.

Groups such as we are usually to be found on park benches, each with his own can of Kestrel lager, unsightly of appearance and best kept upwind of.

Well, Bruce & Geraint fit the description at least

laugh.gif
joseph boyle
I hope i 'm not too disappointed,i'm sure i won't be as long as i can have a sip of your kestrel lager!
julie
geraint
Kestrel makes a change from meths... or so Bruce tells me closedeyes.gif
brucehubbard
I'll have you know I sup only the best quality industrial meths........
geraint
Ken's off the booze - he just chews firelighters - it's healthier.
brucehubbard
Yes....but he is not good to be around on bonfire night!

Ohhhhh...a stiletto to the heart!

And after introducing him to the wonders of Kwak in t'Ganzeke too............

There's gratitude for you!

Removing the stiletto.....handing it back......you'd look even more silly with only one shoe on!
daggers
But seriously... Is anyone actually planning a meet?
D
ShropshireMad
good question. I want a meet!

Neil
geraint
Et moi! But not if the conversation's going to be like this! wink.gif
brucehubbard
It seems to me that a successful meeting consists of two elements:-
1. a focus of interest
2. somewhere to eat, drink and have a good natter.

I have turned my attention to the latter. In central Liverpool there are very few places, it seems, which can be booked as a private diningroom without the cost soaring. However, I think I may have found the answer.
The Royal Hotel in Waterloo has a room, for which there is no charge, if one dines. Naturally, it gets booked, so if we are thinking about June, or even May, then we need to get cracking. It has the advantage of being within close proximity to the Anthony Gormley statues on the shore, which are worth seeing.

I am happy to try to book it, if others can come up with some possible dates.

Over to you guys, and guyesses (?)

Is there some sort of qualification protocol for 'Southern Softies'?
I merely ask because, I come from North Yorkshire!!!!

Dear Dianne,

It is good of you to spend your time doing missionery work down there! I trust your efforts are not in vain.

Should you wish to join us, whenever we get a meeting in the north-west together, you will be very welcome.
I suspect that you would also be welcome, based as you are in Southsea, to a south coast equivalent. Do beware, however, of Broomers, the Terry Thomas of Eastleigh!

Bruce
