Since a number of us have been having fun at the expense of the limp-wristed Southern softies and their attempts to organise a get-together, Ken Lees the Reeve has suggested that we try to organise a meet-up in our wapentake.
We have members spread over a wide area, from Anglesey, through Merseyside up to Burnley. At the risk of being a bit obvious,Liverpool is in the middle.
There are a number of Liverpool members, and some places and things to see.
Amongst the latter are the Kings' Museum at Pier Head, the new Chavasse statue in Abercrombie Square, the University memorial in the Victoria Building, the memorial in the old Liverpool Institute building (now Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts), the Roll of Honour in the Town Hall, plus a number of places/artefacts associated with WW2.
So...how do we feel about a Saturday....meet up for the afternoon....a troll around various places of interest, and then dine together somewhere (if we can come up with a private dining room in a pub!) and have a good chinwag?
Over to all of you, for your ideas and suggestions.
Bruce

London?
I mean, most ManUre and Liverpool fans have to travel up north for a home game: you'd be doing the same thing in reverse.

Sounds like a plan to me!
General stroll about the place, perhaps Daggers might give us a presentation on the Town Hall Memorial. And let's not forget the Exchange Flags memorial behind the Town Hall.

A splendid idea depending, of course, on prior engagements at Goodison Park

Now that rather complicates things!
I was loking to avoid Saturdays when my team are at home (although how often 3pm on a Saturday???), so now maybe have to take the Toffees into account too. Still.....I guess it takes all sorts!
Since Broomers interjected, I would point out that it is ManUre fans that live in Surrey, not those of us who follow teams on Merseyside.

I'm open to any suggestions that don't make me blush.
And I don't mind who's playing at home. I'd rather have hot pins pushed through my eyes then watch any of 'em.
See, Bruce, I managed to keep that one clean!

Liverpool Town Hall? - OK by me, but perhaps not open on Saturdays - will check, if there is interest. The Cotton Exchange memorial 'Tommy' statue is also nearby and the Western Approaches museum [sh! WW2]... The Engine Room memorial and others at the Pier Head. I don't think there is any of the King's display open at present.

However, be warned. Should Geraint attend. The word roue was invented to describe him!

Here is a little quiz to see who qualifies for the proposed North West assembly:
Who is the senior in rank of those 13, 000+ names on the Liverpool Town Hall Roll of Honour, and what is the qualification?
Answers on the back of a stamp or by the forum's quick reply, please. No prizes.

No billiard table please. Where are the photo's of the last meet, dare Geraint release them for publication or is he claiming copyright.

Geraint
(Slapping my wrist for being so audacious as to make such a suggestion in so august company. But I think it'll be fine for the august company will smile benightedly at such a vulgar suggestion, but will understand that the horny-handed son of toil from the Land of Song will never aspire to equal status, and should therefore be benignly tolerated.)

It seems to me that a successful meeting consists of two elements:-
1. a focus of interest
2. somewhere to eat, drink and have a good natter.
I have turned my attention to the latter. In central Liverpool there are very few places, it seems, which can be booked as a private diningroom without the cost soaring. However, I think I may have found the answer.
The Royal Hotel in Waterloo has a room, for which there is no charge, if one dines. Naturally, it gets booked, so if we are thinking about June, or even May, then we need to get cracking. It has the advantage of being within close proximity to the Anthony Gormley statues on the shore, which are worth seeing.
I am happy to try to book it, if others can come up with some possible dates.
Over to you guys, and guyesses (?)

Dear Dianne,
It is good of you to spend your time doing missionery work down there! I trust your efforts are not in vain.
Should you wish to join us, whenever we get a meeting in the north-west together, you will be very welcome.
I suspect that you would also be welcome, based as you are in Southsea, to a south coast equivalent. Do beware, however, of Broomers, the Terry Thomas of Eastleigh!
