Full Version: North Bucks, Northants & Beds Meeting

Will O'Brien
Given the successes of meetings in other parts of the country, is there any interest in a North Bucks/Northants/Bedfordshire get together?

If so there is an opportunity here to debate format (i.e are we talking about a few drinks somewhere or something more formal), locations, possible dates etc.

Comments please.

I'm up for a social of some sort - my location is north MK.

Will,

I would be interested too. I live in West Milton Keynes, but as I travel to the South Staffs meets a few times a year then anywhere in North Bucks, Northants or Beds would be OK.

If you wish for this to be more than a one-off I would suggest following Roy Evans format with the South Staffs, i.e. pick a regular date and venue (e.g. for the South Staffs it is always 8.00pm on the first Tuesday of the month, at the same pub). With those meets there is a core who attend >90% of the time, but other "irregulars" know when it is and attend when they can.

Best regards,

Stuart

Then why not come to the Northampton WFA meetings on the second Thursday of each month? Our guest speakers are often drawn from the Pals.

I'm interested in bringing the class of this meeting down a notch or two....

I am in Cambs but qualify as the mapmakers "stole" Northamptonshire from us Peterborians a few years back...

This idea has merit if there is the opportunity to have a quick tipple & a chat afterwards

Before, during and after. We are a versatile lot us Northamptonians. We are also apparently, with Kate's invite, not fussed what riff raff we have along, so long as they get the first round in of course.

I have to tender my apologies for our next WFA meeting on 9th April (guest speaker John Stanyard peaking on his uncle who died serving with the 60th Battalion CEF). I'm being versatile in Daventry and Harpole.

I'm in Bedfordshire but I am interested in a meet although time and place restricted for the time being!!!!

Did Will's suggestion ever go anywhere?

Brian,

Not at the moment unless they have gone underground with it to avoid me!

I guess as with me work gets in the way but if I know Will, its in hand.

Arm

It's still on the radar. What we need is a mutually acceptable location - I would put CMK on the table but if I'm honest there's not what I'd call a 'real' Public house to sit down in , have a few jars & chew the fat. Now if it's eating & drinking we have an abudence of restaurants. Does anyone have any locations they think would be suitable?
Brian_Curragh
If it was to be between MK & Bedford - The Carrington Arms at Moulsoe? Haven't been for a few years - so don't know what it's like these days....

I am interested. As I am in the East The Soke or Oundle ish would be good but I am easy.
Memorial Man
The Carrington Arms chnaged hands recently and may not be an ideal venue. How about somewhere in the Turvey, Lavendon area?
armourersergeant
Milton Keynes area would be better for me as its a reasonable distance to travel. I have also had my MK inoculations so would not need to visit the doctor again. tongue.gif

Are you talking central MK (might well need those inoculations laugh.gif ) or on the outskirts? The Black Horse at Great Linford ?

Brian
Stephen Barker
Great Linford sounds good

If it's in Milton Keynes, I might not attend in a huff due to football allegiances. On the other hand, if things go the other way I may not be welcome! tongue.gif

All Pish supporters must pay a levy (come on drop some points........you know you want to)

The Black Horse is fine - we probably go there once a month or so - either family or work colleagues - food is perfectly OK & they have Landlord & Bombardier on tap. Good off-road parking & if the weather permits, the beer garden is next to the Grand Union.

I'm still game for a meet.

OK then, any advance on the Black Horse in Great Linford or is that as a location deemed OK. If so can we have some suggestions on preferred dates. My initial thoughts were a Thursday or Friday night or perhaps a Saturday afternoon?
Brian_Curragh
Will

Any of those days are good for me - the only regular Friday I have is the MK WFA one week in four - but Stephen goes to that as well.

Saturdays are really bad for me. 2nd Thursday in month WFA meeting and I would need a few weeks to plan not working late on either day. Otherwise I am willing to grace you with my presence. I doubt we will find a perfect date so I will bow to the majority date and do my best.
