Have no idea why he has abruptly left but when I first joined the forum he was of immense help to me in my research and from other threads I have seen he was always willing to help others.
I assume he has been upset by something/someone. Why do forum members have to behave in this way? There is of course a thread started by Chris Baker on the way the forum has turned, but that has grown into a spat against the mods. This is by far the best form on the net so why can't we all behave
Personally I can only hope he is still reading threads and will return.

Perhaps with the Ashes coming up he couldn't face another Aussie assault. And just in case he's watching from afar, here's something I haven't posted for a while......

Cheers,

Getting back to Patrick's post about Roland leaving the Forum. I too will miss him, he was/is a one off and added to the spirit of the Forum and I hope he will return. I think I shall run a poll on "Should we beg Roland to return". He brought a new approach to a subject that gets too heavy at times.
Sincerely Mike Jones

I did notice that Roland was asking for a handout for a fare to OZ to meet up woth the pals in the Canberra
gettogether a few weeks ago. Maybe he has made his pile and surrupticiously nicked off in the hope that the
gettogether is still on. However I will meet Rolands witty and pithy comments and hope he comes back too.

Spoke to him yesterday: the economic downtrun has hit him hard.
He was in Court yesterday, facing a case brought by the Trading Standards people. They claimed he was putting more sawdust in his sausages than legally permitted. He won his case, though it was a near-run thing.
He pointed out, quite rightly, that times were hard for jobbing butchers, and he just couldn't afford to make both ends meat.

Presumably posted in Skindles where many members, including Roland & I, would not be able to see it (through choice in Roland and my cases).

Chaps , just catching up on this. No agendas my end , just lack of time to fully keep up with all happenings on forum. I will pop by from time to time as a " guest" but really no need to worry about me any more , the mods can close my account if they think fit...and of course as many of you know i am fully aware with all the goings on in Skindles...but hey thats another story.
Happy Easter to you all.

This saga is going on longer than an the complete re-run of all Eastenders ever shown. Can I suggest that Roland either changes his profile to a participating member per se or the mods close his account. For someone who has supposedly gone is posting more on ww1 than ever. Maybe it was just a cry for support from Roland and being that he has a little he is hanging around, in which case please change your profile.

Evening Roland,
I genuinely do not know if some posters are angry with you or it is just good humoured banter. If some members have the hump with you, they don't have to read your posts. I, like many others enjoy your visits. Your saga here has vastly more visits than most other threads, 1600 reads already. So it must be interesting to some people. You have not answered the question in post 1, why the declaration of leaving? I ask as one of your genuine supporters.

Hi Richard. As i said absolutely no agendas from me . I dont see myself as a fully fledged member of this forum any more and have given the mods the option of closing my account. However i will still make the odd visit and make the odd post if its deemed necessary and i am still able. I do that on lots of other forums where i am not a member.

Hi Shropshiremad,
I am not sure what you have missed, as there are only "Loose" comments. I gave Roland a second chance to tell it as he sees it. What I think is happening, is this. For some time, some members of the Forum have been trying to hound Roland out. Again no one says why but I assume it is because he is not always a Great War Purist. A little while ago he gave in and declared his retirement. Due to this thread (Started by someone else), Roland maybe sees he is welcomed by many. I hope he will do a "Frank Sinatra" and make a full comeback.
I could be completely wrong and it is all good humoured banter but I don't think so.
I have put my head above the parapit Roland, you better be there with me and Denzil !

Let's face it, Andy. We've had members before who have said they are leaving and are then quickly back. We've also had many, many more who used to post a lot and then their interests change and posting tails off - some eventually ceasing to post.
Nothing stange about that - although I rather suspect Roland is playing a different game with you. Or playing with himself, perhaps.

Oddly i was not the thread starter....but that is mere fact and pointless

The thread was , in actual fact , started to ask why i had left the GWF and to explain any issues i had. As i said i had no issues , was happy as an Easter chick and would pop back from time to time to have a nosey and if my account was not closed i may make the odd post if deemed necessary.....then the thread becomes one of the most read on the GWF at the moment.

As for Andy slowing down when he spies an accident on the motorway, its you that holds up the North bound when the South bound is blocked or the South bound when the North is blocked. Naughty, naughty, naughty, what you should do is drive past with someone filming on their phone.
I cant believe the amount of bandwidth being used here that we all pay for. We were asked to delte quality photos to save on bandwith but there is room for this tripe. Please Andy re-open the motorway by closing this stupid crazy thread down.
