OK guys,
The last time we tried to plan a meet it all went ''Pete Tong'', let's try again.
I know we have done it before, but it worked and was enjoyed by all- How about we do Nottingham Castle again (The SF Museum) and then go for a bite to eat and a drink at the Jerusalem around the corner?
Seemed to work well a few years ago.
I was thinking about a Saturday in July.........
Any interest??

I think I should be ok for an Olde Trip around then....
(As long as we are careful around potentially dangerous objects).

Before the schools break up, I assume? I'd be interested but am already spoken for on the weekend of 10-12th July. I'll b exploring the Welsh Marches with other BMW motorcyclists.

Count me in. Yes, it was an enjoyable day, with the only 'grumble' being of the stomach variety; we'll have to try and fit in a bite to eat this time.

Preferably after! So, late July is great for me.
The Castle / Jerusalem meet went very well and I'd be happy to do that again, but I agree with Stuart that food needs to be added to the agenda this time.
I'm in!

Cliff, if I bring it along will you sign my copy of your excellent book?
I have another good book signed by that Steve Morse fella, but they're quite common now.....
On a serious note, does it need to be July? We could go into August, esp. if MB can't make July.

'Whitwell Parish Soldiers 1914-1918', by Cliff Hobson. 172 pages of tremendous detail - biographies, letters, battle details etc.
(BTW, I haven't purchased your MW book yet, much to my shame. Bring one along to the meet and I'll bring a tenner (unless prices have gone up!?)).
First Saturday in August is 1st August. I'm happy with that.

Yes, it was late in the day and he had signed so many that his pen had run out. Are you sure he hasn't etched his name with the pen nib?!
What a productive group we are - at least four books already published (my one arrived from the printers today) and a few more in the pipeline.
I too can do 1st August.

Answering the Call. I realise that my book is not 'local' to the Midlands but hopefully, it will still be an interesting read.

Andrew,
Re the book - I think Andrew is being a little flattering, unfortunately the few complimentary copies I managed to acquire have gone to friends and relations, it cost a little over £10 for printing etc., so it is selling at cost price of £10, it may not appeal to everyone being of a Parochial nature, consequentially it's not been advertised.
Regards Cliff.

I shall be at a wedding on 1st August in Turkey.
Could all of the 'booksellers' contact me with details please

This wedding has caused me more probelms!
I was booked to do the Western Front tour with L**** from 1st Aug and had to re-arrange it, then the 2nd choice was cancelled (sob).
I am the eldest adult male so have to go. My Nephew and his Turkish bride (actually wife as they married here in Dec 08) have to have the family there. Her family are very close and we do not want to snub them by not going. It looks like being a grand do with everyone going on Holiday afterwards. I get the holiday 40% cheaper by letting her dad book it. The good news is that her brother lives 2 hours from Gallipoli which may prove very useful in the future

Hi Cliff,
I understand what you mean, since by their very nature the content of memorial books will mostly be of local interest. However, often you find information within these books that can't be found elsewhere, e.g. personal letters, photographs, details of men in units of personal interest. I promise that this not intended as an advert but I can give a couple of examples from my book: the story of the only 1st Black Watch officer to come through the opening three months of the war unscathed, DSO, MiD 5 times, he survived the war, finishing up as a Brigadier-General (Lieutenant in August 1914), continued in the army and commanded the 51st Highland Division in WW2, captured by Rommel after defending the Dunkirk beach-head, and knighted for services to his fellow prisoners of war. A Military Cross and Bar to a Tank Corps officer, both awarded for actions in August 1918, includes tank name and additional details to those given in the citations. Both stories include good quality photos and are previously unpublished.
As for dates for the meet-up, if things are to change just to say that I can't do 25th July (you're right Steve, it is wedding season).
Cheers,
Stuart

Cliff your Pm box is full

Could you PM me with details of where to send the money. I will raid my piggy bank as I have already spent lots this month! I did get the three volumes of 'Twenty Years After' though at a very good price. I can always put it on E-thingy to get your book
Ref the meet - such is life but I will be there in spirit! or Efes beer actually.
I think we will have to organise a Western front tour sometime.
Better get back to checking all the 9th Bn MIC's and Service records I got on Ancestry during their free period.
