OK guys,

The last time we tried to plan a meet it all went ''Pete Tong'', let's try again.

I know we have done it before, but it worked and was enjoyed by all- How about we do Nottingham Castle again (The SF Museum) and then go for a bite to eat and a drink at the Jerusalem around the corner?

Seemed to work well a few years ago.

I was thinking about a Saturday in July.........

Any interest??
Stebie9173
I think I should be ok for an Olde Trip around then....

(As long as we are careful around potentially dangerous objects).

Count me in. Yes, it was an enjoyable day, with the only 'grumble' being of the stomach variety; we'll have to try and fit in a bite to eat this time.

Cheers,

Stuart

Preferably after! So, late July is great for me.

The Castle / Jerusalem meet went very well and I'd be happy to do that again, but I agree with Stuart that food needs to be added to the agenda this time.

I'm in!
ShropshireMad
I could be tempted to go. I don't usually go to Nottingham, but, i've got to go to Lincoln in July, i'll do both together.

Neil

Count me in .

Andrew Hesketh
Cliff, if I bring it along will you sign my copy of your excellent book?

I have another good book signed by that Steve Morse fella, but they're quite common now.....

On a serious note, does it need to be July? We could go into August, esp. if MB can't make July.
Stebie9173
I have one of the incredibly rare collector item UNSIGNED copies of the book by the Morse fellow. Will it go up or down in value if it is signed?

Steve.
Anthony Bagshaw
Great News guys,

How about the first weekend in August then? I don't have a calendar handy but think the Saturday would be better.

Cliff,

Book???? Where have i been, asleep???? Please tell me more.......
Andrew Hesketh
'Whitwell Parish Soldiers 1914-1918', by Cliff Hobson. 172 pages of tremendous detail - biographies, letters, battle details etc.

(BTW, I haven't purchased your MW book yet, much to my shame. Bring one along to the meet and I'll bring a tenner (unless prices have gone up!?)).

First Saturday in August is 1st August. I'm happy with that.

Yes, it was late in the day and he had signed so many that his pen had run out. Are you sure he hasn't etched his name with the pen nib?!

What a productive group we are - at least four books already published (my one arrived from the printers today) and a few more in the pipeline.

I too can do 1st August.

Stuart

How much cash do I need to bring for yours Stuart? laugh.gif

I can escort you to the nearest cash machine cool.gif

My Web site shows the cover and gives some details of the book - Answering the Call. I realise that my book is not 'local' to the Midlands but hopefully, it will still be an interesting read.

Cheers,

Stuart

Excellent,

Saturday 1st August 2009- time 1pm suit everyone??

Andy,

Saturday 1st August 2009, 1.0pm

See you all there. Looking forward to it.
Rockdoc
It's on my calendar. Will the place to meet up be decided nearer the time?

Keith
Andrew Hesketh
Last time we met at the Castle entrance. Same again?
Anthony Bagshaw
I think so Andy.....worked well last time....we were just looking for folk stood loitering near the entrance! laugh.gif
Cliff. Hobson
Andrew,

Re the book - I think Andrew is being a little flattering, unfortunately the few complimentary copies I managed to acquire have gone to friends and relations, it cost a little over £10 for printing etc., so it is selling at cost price of £10, it may not appeal to everyone being of a Parochial nature, consequentially it's not been advertised.

Regards Cliff.
Stebie9173
Do we get a parade this time?!

Steve.
Anthony Bagshaw
Will see what i can do laugh.gif
scott henderson
Hi.
Does anyone mind if i join you?
PPCLI
Hi Scott,

Please come along and join in. It's a friendly crowd and an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Cheers,

Stuart
Anthony Bagshaw
Scott,

I'll try my very best to be there. I can see no problem at the moment. Although i was stuck in Nottingham yesterday for a while.

Only a nie day in Metheringham, Lincs, can make me that happy.

I shall be at a wedding on 1st August in Turkey.
Could all of the 'booksellers' contact me with details please rolleyes.gif
I purchased 'Twenty Years after' on Saturday, so my book money for the year is nearly gone!

I have loads of unsigned books by that John Stephen Morse bloke laugh.gif

steve m
Andrew Hesketh
Doesn't have to be 1st August Steve. (The meet that is, not the wedding....unless they'll cancel so that you can come to this?)
steve morse
This wedding has caused me more probelms!
I was booked to do the Western Front tour with L**** from 1st Aug and had to re-arrange it, then the 2nd choice was cancelled (sob).
I am the eldest adult male so have to go. My Nephew and his Turkish bride (actually wife as they married here in Dec 08) have to have the family there. Her family are very close and we do not want to snub them by not going. It looks like being a grand do with everyone going on Holiday afterwards. I get the holiday 40% cheaper by letting her dad book it. The good news is that her brother lives 2 hours from Gallipoli which may prove very useful in the future biggrin.gif

Hi Cliff,

I understand what you mean, since by their very nature the content of memorial books will mostly be of local interest. However, often you find information within these books that can't be found elsewhere, e.g. personal letters, photographs, details of men in units of personal interest. I promise that this not intended as an advert but I can give a couple of examples from my book: the story of the only 1st Black Watch officer to come through the opening three months of the war unscathed, DSO, MiD 5 times, he survived the war, finishing up as a Brigadier-General (Lieutenant in August 1914), continued in the army and commanded the 51st Highland Division in WW2, captured by Rommel after defending the Dunkirk beach-head, and knighted for services to his fellow prisoners of war. A Military Cross and Bar to a Tank Corps officer, both awarded for actions in August 1918, includes tank name and additional details to those given in the citations. Both stories include good quality photos and are previously unpublished.

As for dates for the meet-up, if things are to change just to say that I can't do 25th July (you're right Steve, it is wedding season).

Cheers,

Stuart
Anthony Bagshaw
Hi All,

How about we make it the 8th or 15th August instead? That way it looks like we can all make it OR how about the last weekend of June?
PPCLI
Hi Anthony,

I can't do the June date but okay so far for August. Fingers crossed we can find the most suitable date.

Stuart
Andrew Hesketh
Either of the Augusr dates would probably be OK with me, but not the June one.
Anthony Bagshaw
Looks like August it is then, Sorry Steve!
mikebriggs
Will try to make it whenever it is, most of July/August is bad for me, but will try to fit in with whatever dates suits most

I'm feeling left out.....................might just have to bring a first draft of my book (effort) cool.gif

Mike
Andrew Hesketh
Will I be the only one there without a book to sell or plug? laugh.gif
steve morse
Cliff your Pm box is full biggrin.gif Could you PM me with details of where to send the money. I will raid my piggy bank as I have already spent lots this month! I did get the three volumes of 'Twenty Years After' though at a very good price. I can always put it on E-thingy to get your book laugh.gif
Ref the meet - such is life but I will be there in spirit! or Efes beer actually.
I think we will have to organise a Western front tour sometime.
Better get back to checking all the 9th Bn MIC's and Service records I got on Ancestry during their free period.

Steve
Rockdoc
Definitely not, Andy! laugh.gif

Keith
dave ricketts
Gents,

I will try and join you, when you agree a date!

Might be able to pick up a few tips from all the authors, as I haven't got a book to plug (or even in first draft) but must get around to writing one.

Dave
Anthony Bagshaw
Hi All,

Shall we settle for the first Saturday of August- sorry Steve!

Andy,

I take it the Tibby project is still some way off 'completion'? huh.gif
