After my efforts (?) to arrange a Wiltshire meet, Malcolm Linham, AGWR and myself were talking on Wednesday about a potential meeting in Bath of members from the Bath/Bristol area. I'm not saying I will arrange it (hopefully the other 2 will run with it!) but I'm just testing the water. Anyone interested, please add your names.

Excellent idea - Sue (Orson) and I both work in Bath so we'd certainly be happy to meet up

One of the suggestions that we discussed on Wednesday was that this location would need to be within walking distance of a railway station, and also served food.
So if anyone can suggest a suitable venue then I might just take this on. ( All the pubs I use are in the country)
Wendy and I are going to Bath tomorrow, so we might give it a bit of a recce.

We know the pubs in Bath and would suggest 'The Crystal Palace'. It's close to the station, in Abbey Green (just below the Abbey and near M & S). Food is quite good.
Would most people want to meet on a week day or weekend?

For me a weekday as I'm taken up with cricket at weekends. Friday night would be good.

Does anyone stilll think this is a good idea and like to pursue it?
Is there anyone else who would like to meet up somewhere in Bath?

Sue,
I apologise for not replying earlier, in my view the Crystal Palace on a Friday night is not a good idea, if the plan was to talk about the Great War.
This is a city centre pub and is normaly full of students and very noisey, although it may have have changed.
As the criteria was within walking distance of a railway station, I am thinking more of the Widcombe area.

I have only just seen this thread. I would be up for a beer in either Bath or Bristol.

I would be interested in a weekday - Friday is a good day for me. However day to day developments at work could mean a last minute unable to attend situation. I am not available at weekends.
I am TT but happy to meet at a pub with good food. Alternatively there is also 'The Ocean Pearl' chinese (all you can eat buffet) in the Podium.

OK, shall we try and fix a date? Friday seems best - Sue and I should be OK for most in the next month or so except the 29th May. Once we have a date, we can sort out a meeting place in Bath.
Any other Bath/Bristol pals interested? I believe we have a Bristol based Mod.....

22nd May is good for us - OK for you Malcolm, Michelle and Dave? Anyone else in the area?
What sort of time would we be thinking of? Both Sue and I work in Bath so can meet up anytime from 5.30 or so onwards.
Regarding venue, agreed, the Crystal Palace is probably not a good idea. Widcombe is certainly very close to the railway station, and I think parking should be not too much of a problem around there either. Is there a particular pub you are thinking of, Malcolm? The White Hart and Ring of Bells do very good food - not sure whether they would need to be booked though.

Friday 22nd May is OK by us.
I was'nt thinking of any particular pub, from memory the Ring of Bells is quite small and I am sure we would need to book.

Who's that then?
Sounds like a great idea, but bear in mind, IIRC, Bath has a funny parking regime.... unless they've changed it in the last few years. Then again, I may turn up on the bike, so there'll be no worries

Some people are thinking of coming by rail, hence 'The ring of bells'.
If a table was to be reserved it would be good to have an idea of numbers, so lets lay our cards on the table, so to speak. Who would be there for 5.30 or who would prefer a later time?

How many more for The White Hart, 5.30 onwards?

Oops
Les and I posting at the same time.......
I suggest a revised time then so people working in Bristol or working late can make it.
How many could make it to 'The White Hart' from 7 onwards?
Alan and I can but we would need an idea of numbers as 'The White Hart' will have to have a table booked.

Michelle - here is a map of the White Hart. If you're driving, you should be able to find somewhere on Prior Park Road or Widcombe Hill. If you're on the train, use the footbridge over the river (not marked on the map). Come out of the station, walk immediately right until you come to the tunnel under the railway line. This leads to the footbridge - go over it, then over the pedestrian crossings. Turn left, head along Claverton St and you're there

The parking there is OK too. It's outside the "normal" area of Bath city centre and many of the side roads are residential. Incidentally just up the road from there is a small churchyard with an unmarked VC grave (just a little useless info for you all

)

Hi all
We will book a table for eight people at 'The White Hart' for 7 pm. At present those eight are Alan and myself, Michelle and partner, Malcolm and Wendy, Les and Andrew.
Should anyone get there early the table will be booked under the name of 'Alan'.
Look forward to meeting you all there. Anyone else who is in the area is welcome to join us.
