Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what this is?

No guess, but it looks familiar. Is it at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington?

I won't be giving away the location until someone guesses it right... or if everyone gives up after a day or so!

I'll start with the obvious one(s): Camel or Pup.
Is there a prize? If so, would I want to win it?

Afraid it's no to both. And you would win, er *looks around desk*

Is it a Bosche?

Not a Bleriot. (although there was one in similar condition in the same place)
Here's a clue - they weren't flown in action by the Country which manufactured them

I'd say it's a Halberstadt D2. Or maybe an African Swallow.

Are there actually any clues in the image - by which I mean parts of the airframe that could only be from a specific type? It looks like a generic aircraft fuselage to me - could be anything. The only real clue that it is something specific seems to be the number on that little sign underneath it.

I suppose the front of it and the length of the fuselage could be good clues. Wouldn't want it to be too obvious, otherwise there's no fun in guessing

The front end is the wide section with the circular firewall. The fuselage is in two sections, the rear part is on top of the front part.
Another hint - it's in the UK, and the photo was taken last than a week ago, so it's still in the country

Yep, that's it! One of many interesting exhibits in storage at the RAF Museum reserve collection at Stafford - i'll post up some of the photographs later
They've also acquired a spinner and I believe the wheels from elsewhere
Here's the fully completed object - very attractive aircraft
