One of the men killed on 19th July, 1916 who has no known grave is:

267143 L/Cpl Thomas Birchall, 2/7th Royal Warwickshire Regt.

He has no family details on CWGC.

As he was from Ormskirk and formerly served in the 9th King's Liverpool Regt. I have some information about him and his family.

On checking my files, I corresponded with the nephew of Thomas Birchall some years ago and still have his address.

I haven't been keeping up with the Fromelles threads and now that one thread has 888 posts I simply don't have the time to catch up. What is the best thing to do with this information?

I wonder if Thomas Birchall knows about it all, the CWGC are desperate to contact possible relatives

Check the CWGC and see if his name is on the list. Also leave a message for Victoria on the Fromelles thread to see if he is on her list.

That is a thing that angers me, why did the CWGC not do their job and find out who the dead soldiers family was hence the sitituation we have today with many of Fallen hero with no details.
Lest we Forget.

Thank you Sandra. His name is on the list but without any additional details hometown, etc.). I will look for Victoria's thread.

Phil, that is rather unfair criticism. The CWGC did do their job, but they couldn't force a family to submit details, nor could they trace a relative who had moved away from the last known address the military passed to them.

Ken there is many of Fallen hero`s that does not even have their last military address or N O K all they had to do was look up the service records . I do not think that is a unfair comment Ken. These men deserve more and maybe you have a point did the manager of the CWGC at that not follow up in the information and could the CWGC have done more at that time? I bet the staff at present are asking that question.

Phil

We have Thomas on the Ancestry tree but only with the Ormskirk connection. He is one of the many soldiers that are difficult to put a genealogical trace on.

Many thanks for the Scarisbrook and service papers tip. We now have his basic genealogy and messages have been sent to possible relatives in the four family trees in which Thomas appears.
