Name: Robert Clifford Davies
Birth Place: Llanelly, Carmarthen
Residence: Llanelly
Death Date: 19 Jul 1916
Rank: L/Corporal
Regiment: Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Battalion: 2/7th Battalion.
Number: 267414
Type of Casualty: Killed in action
Comments: Formerly 5338, Welsh Regt.

The CWGC additional information is: Son of Ann Davies, of 8, Ralph Terrace, Llanelly, and the late David Davies. Enlisted, Sept., 1914.

I have the birth date fixed as Dec 1896 but because of the surname and locality, it is a matter of linking Robert to the right Davies family.

Thanks

Mel

Here is Robert himself;

The photo comes from the Llanelly Mercury of the time, and was sent in to me by a friend a few weeks back. I have a section on the Welshmen missing at Fromelles on my website, so if I get any enquiries from any descendants/ family I can put them on to the CWGC, but Davies is a very popular name in Carmarthenshire, even more so than the rest of Wales.

Many thanks for the link - that is a nice website. Your welsh expertise will definitely be needed if we have problems with getting a line on the others.

Would you mind if I added the photo of Robert to the Ancestry tree?

No problems Mel,

If I get any contacts I'll pass them on, so fingers crossed that some of the Fromelles burials can be id'd.
