You must be psychic! tongue.gif

This was one of the soldiers that I needed help with due to the family mistranscription as Winterlison in the 1901 census and the father being absent.

Many thanks

As you seem to have the Warks covered, I went through the working list and selected the Suffolk men (I come from a long line in Suffolk as well as Warks). The others are

5313,Private, KNIGHTS, WILLIAM , A Coy.2nd/1st Bucks Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, Beccles Suffolk
5342, Lance Corporal, WOOD, STANLEY, 2nd/1st Bucks Bn. Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry,Oulton Broad Suffolk

so if you're happy for me to look into them for you. then I will.

I am relieved to learn that you are not psychic tongue.gif

Many thanks for your offer of help. We are just in the process of working our way through the OBLIs, so we will be posting any where difficulties are encountered.

Good news from the East Anglia Times and the other forum I linked to

However, I think someone must have noticed it as today's edition carries a very good article about the descendants of two of the men.

James Edwin Winterborn (known by his middle name)
his niece has been found and is delighted to provide DNA for the project. Her mother, Edwin's sister had passed away in 1985 and was always sad that she never knew what had happened to her brother. The family will be overjoyed if they can find his body and give him a proper buried together with his comrades.

Herbert Bird
Great Nephew has been found. He is the grandson of Sgt Bird's brother who also perished in WWI. He too thinks it wonderful that they have found these men so that they can be laid to rest properly.

A telephone number for Historic Casualty Casework is given as the main point of contact in the UK.

I can't find the article on the online edition though. mellow.gif

I've been doing some research on the Aylsham War memorial recently, and included a trip to the Aylsham Town Cemetery for some background information - there will quite often be family memorials that include a reference to a loved one lost overseas.

So I was quite suprised to find the grave plot for John and Agnes Ann Winterborn, which contained a reference to James Edwin, their eldest son missing Lavantie July 19th 1916. James isn't mentioned on the town War Memorial or on the Church Memorial in St Michaels.

I'll try and attach a couple of pictures I took, (more as an aide memoire for me so apologies for the quantity).
