Thanks to some superb detective work by Adrian (Apwright) and Mel (Melon), we are near completing the genealogies of the 61st Division missing soldiers.
The Ancestry tree has the genealogies of 300+ soldiers and their immediate relatives adding up to 2,000+ entries. There remains only thirteen to sort out!
These cases will be numbered 1-13 so that you can easily identify them. Your help with unravelling them or providing additional information on the soldier from local papers or memorials that will help solve the puzzle would be very much appreciated.
The initial trawl of Ancestry trees has thrown up more than sixty leads with well in excess of forty of those providing a connection to a relative of a soldier.
There has also been some other spin offs:
Two surname CWGC mistranscriptions have been identified - William Casmore is William Casemore (thanks to June's site Buckinghamshire Remembers http://fp.underw.f9.co.uk/bucksrems/index.htm ) and Daniel Harriss is Daniel Harries. These are now kindly being dealt with by Terry Denham.
Melon has also found a possible non commemoration here: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...howtopic=123466
So, full speed ahead! Please pitch in and help us solve the last mysteries.
