Not sure if this is WW1 I suspect not but the aircraft are certainly types that served.
Avro 504's and at least one Bristol Fighter.

I can read the following numbers.

H2967
H2443
F?724
H6630
J7044
F4370
Dolphin
There look to be two DH 9As.

The second aircraft from the front on the left is J7044, which was with No 11 Sqn RAF when it was hit by J7043 when the latter aircraft was landing at Bircham Newton on 24 March 1924. After repair, J7044 went to No 55 Sqn in 1925.

The other DH 9A is at the right rear, but I can't read the serial number. Is it any clearer on the original?

Cheers

Gareth,
I'd go for J7223, The seven is on the dark colour but blown up to 150 percent and a magnifying glass comes a bit clearer.

Thanks. Unfortunately, J7223 was a Fairey Fawn. I thought that it might be J7333, which was a DH 9A but, alas, there's nothing about that particular aeroplane in The DH 4/DH 9 File.

These things are sent to try us!

The common denominator is that all machines identifiable were with the Inland Area Aircraft Depot at Henlow in January 1924. The depot was formed in 1920, by re-designating the existing 5 (Eastern) Aircraft Repair Depot, and was itself redisignated as the Home Aircraft Depot in 1926.

Thanks to all.
Gareth, under a glass the missing DH 9A is J7039.
additionally the Avro 504 front middle is H7447.
Mick, good info regarding Inland Area Aircraft Depot, what was its function?
Cheers

We may have dated the photo! J7039 was tested at the IAAD on 28 and 29 January 1924, so the phot was probably taken then. It was with No 24 Sqn in April 1924; then to No 207 Sqn (as 'C4') in August 1924; then to No 39 Sqn; next the Packing Depot at Ascot; next the Aircraft Depot at Drigh Road; then No 60 Sqn by June 1928 before finally No 27 Sqn by May 1930.

Gareth
