I am drawing up a revised scheme of work for teaching about the Great War. I am including more on early film sources, notably the Battle of the Somme, now available in re-mastered DVD form. Does anyone happen to have recorded the recent Andy Robertshaw and Co documentary about analysing part of the film, which includes the attempts at lip-reading what soldiers are saying? I'll be really amazed if anyone has the half-hour Channel 4 'Flashback' documentary about the making of the film from the mid-80s. It includes a very nice reconstruction of a cinema manager reading aloud Lloyd George's introduction to the film. My treasured copy seems finally to have gone to the great video archive in the sky. Any admin costs gratefully reimbursed.

Hi Mark,
It was shown in NZ on The History Channel. Some of their programs are downlodable/ viewable online and wind up on other channels of the Sky network here.
Dicovery.com or Sky.co.nz maybe another source, as the Sky TV system here is regionalised (US, UK, Asia/pacific etc) the NZ/Australia network of Discovery, History, National Geographic, and, The Documentary Channel are a block channel option on the subscription.
If conventional means don't help, I hope the above info could help you out.
Cheers,
Blair

Did you find a copy of the documentary? My father in law taped over my copy and I have been trying to get another ever since. The piano music was perfect.
I now live in Canada and would like to get a copy I could play in North America.

That episode is still on YouTube though I don't know whether copyright implications would limit its use as part of a presentation.
cheers,

Hi Mark,
not sure if it's any use but I have an old vhs copy of the old BBC Somme documentary narrated and presented by Leo McKearn; I haven't got the technological ability (!) or equipment to transfer it to dvd but if you're interested I'd be happy to send you the tape on a 'temporary loan' basis; send me a pm if you're interested
