Among the pictures are a couple of the Verdun battlefield in 1940. It's interesting to see how the vegetation is growing back but how little there still was 24 yrs after the battle.

If you're wondering where the photo of the stack of skulls was taken, it was in the Ossuary at Marville (not Murville), which is north of Verdun close to the Belgian border. That Ossuary is still there and it still looks like that. There are lots of contemporary German postcards with shots of soldiers standing by the bones.
