I am in the early stages of researching a Jewish officer of the British Army. There's no trace of a service or medals record (online, anyway) so I am beginning to wonder if he served under a name different to that by which his family know him. I'll be checking out the Army List tomorrow so if I get anything from that I will add it here.
The challenge is this;
One major clue is that he wrote (as remembered by his family) more than 400 pages of articles that were published in a journal, newspaper or gazette of some kind. This may have been an army thing, or possibly a Jewish movement thing, not sure. The titles "King Nor Country" or "The Suez Runs Dry" have been mentioned. Apparently large chunks were reproduced in the London and Manchester press, possibly anonymously or under pseudonym.
Any insight as to what this journal was, whether it still exists anywhere, timing, etc would be gratefully received. I'd love to track copies down, not least as they are likely to offer clues as to who this chap actually was.

Chris
Depending on where the family came from, he may well have Anglicised his name if otherwise it sounded Germanic.
Can't recall seeing anything in the Manchester newspapers, although I wasnt looking for anything like this. I'm sure I've read recently of a major Jewish research project underway - perhaps related to one of the large London congregations. I've had a quick Google and can't find it now. if you can track it down, it might be a starting point.

Thanks, John. I'll see ahat I can find about that.
I should have added to my original note that this chap may have served with the "Jewish Brigade" of Royal Fusiliers and was at some time on Allenby's staff in Palestine.

Thanks, all.
Thanks, Mike, but he is definitely not Jabotinsky.
I shall certainly contact Ajex, Michael, once I have some of the basic details of his service.

Chris,
The British Army's newspaper was 'The Palestine News'
"The weekly newspaper of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force of the British Army in occupied enemy territory - Published every Thursday at G.H.Q., First Echelon, Palestine. Price: One Egyptian Piastre."
I would be very surprised if the IWM did not have some copies
