While researching the Herefords I came across a newspaper report descibing how one of the soldiers was shot in the side and then while being carried on a stretcher, was shot in the head and killed alongside one of the stretcher bearers. In later reports I discovered that the wounded man on the stretcher was my grandmother's cousin. I have been wondering if anyone else has come across reports of similar incidents.

Not an exact match, but similar;
Private Christopher A Cox, of the 7th Bedfords won the Victoria Cross while acting as a stretcher bearer for his actions between 13-17 Mar 1917.
One account of Cox's actions by Sgt F Batford of the same battalion records; "Whilst making these journeys, a wounded man he was carrying received another wound".
From Cpl W V Simmonds "Whilst carrying one of the Middlesex on his back the wounded man got shot again....also while assisting a Clp on stretcher the Cpl got wounded again".
From 2nd Lt F E Dealer, same battalion "I saw him carrying a wounded man...the wounded man made a violent spasmodic movement and brought Cox to his knees. I was told subsequently taht this was owning to the fact he was hit again by MG"
