From topics on Soldiers I've been advised that my father's cousin could have been a driver in 10th Hvy Bty RGA or a driver in 10th Bty RFA.
Could any one tell me which Battery landed on what beach and when please?
There is so much info on this section of GWF that I'm having great difficulty, e.g. what Brigade?
Thanks in anticipation Peter

The 'war records of 29th division artillery' record that 10th Bty RFA (part of 147th bde commanded by Major deL'E`Winter) landed April 29th "but this fact is not actually mentioned in any of the war diaries" .. the volume I have has full records of unit casualties etc so if you provide his name, I may be able to provide more information on this driver..

Hi David, thanks for the offer to look-up, his name was Dvr Lawrence Moss Simpson 20436.
ororkep July 10 2009 replied suggesting both these Btys with records being held at Kew, but unfortunately I can't manage to visit.

Peter,
May I suggest that you need someone to have a look at the Star roll. If you are lucky it may have the unit on there. I would not be surprised if it was the 10th Heavy Battery, RGA.
Perhaps a request in the "Look up" section may yield a kind person going to Kew who will have a look.

Thank you for the advice Kevin, I'm still finding my way around the site as you can tell from the number of my posts, but everyone seems very helpfull, battiscome has made on offer so I'll see what he comes up with before I try that suggestion.

he is not listed among casualties of 29th Division units in the divisional record - and his medal card shows he is RFA so will not be the RGA Heavy Bty suggested ... the date of entry on his medal card should narrow down the possibilities, but as yet I cannot find a unit which lists that date as 'date of entry'.. this should be traceable by looking for medal cards of the (limited) number of RFA artillery units which served in Gallipoli in 1915... but that would exclude 17th Bde, 147th Bde, 460 Bty, 29th DAC...or RHA units of 29th Div
not much progress i am afraid --

Quite a few RFA drivers and artificers were attached to the Heavy Batteries, so cannot be elliminated. Such as Blair, Samuel 13190, who was 1 of about 21 RFA men attached to 110th Heavy Battery.
The medal roll suggested may hold the key, if you are lucky.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the input on the "Soldiers" thread I had put Lawrence was attached to the 10th Hvy Bty RFA, as per the CWGC info on the Helles Memorial, and one of the Pals suggested the 10th Bty RFA, I wonder if there is a "typo" and it should read 110th Hvy Bty RFA.

I do not think he had anything to do with the 110th Heavy Battery RGA. It was an illustration to show that RFA gunners went out with RGA batteries. He may have been attached to the 10th Heavy Battery. Have a look at his medal rolls.

What you have posted is his MIC, Medal Index Card. The references beside the medal entitlements indicate on which roll his name, and hopefully unit, is listed. These can only be viewed at the NA, which is why I suggested you post on the "Look-up" section if you are unable to go yourself. Hopefully someone will have the time, and patience, to do this for you. I would be looking at the 1915 Star roll first.
