I am interested in looking at walking the retreat from Mons. To allow me to assess the walk does any member know of any map which covers the full walk in detail or will I have to use normal Michelin maps. Any suggestions please

Here is the main map for MONS from the McMaster collection:

http://lt1.mcmaster.ca/ww1/wrz4mp.php?grid=45

If you are looking for others, you can get them from the main grid:

http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww1/ndx5to40.htm

If it is something other than this that you are looking for, can you be more specific?

Awesome route map!

Fits nicely on Google Earth as well, considering it was drawn by hand.

Bill,

In August of next year, the Light Cavalry Association intend to ride the 200 miles of the retreat. It will be much longer for some as we will run with scouts ahead of the main cavalry body.

We have a route (sort of), based around the billet points of Sally Homes' diary who was a cavalry staff officer on the retreat.

Please find below the route as per Sally Homes based on a walking route laid out on google maps. It should fulfill all of your needs:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=...amp;t=h&z=9

If you want more information on our commemorative ride, here is info somewhere on here lol.

If you run your cursor over the line that starts http://maps etc, on my last reply, it will take you to the route.

Conversely go to the thread on the Mons The Great Retreat that details our venture and you will find it there too.

Good luck.

THe Richard Holmes book on riding the retreat is really good, a book of walking the retreat would be even better.
