Does anyone have a description of Voss' 48th combat victory which took place in the morning prior to his meeting with McCudden and his flight?
Many thanks,
Mike

Very brief in Under the Guns, which may suggest available details are very brief:

Quote
Untypically, twelve days had elapsed since Voss's last victory. On the last morning of his life, Werner Voss was in the air countering an incursion itno German terriotory by DH4 bombing planes sent out by 57 Sqn against targets in Hoodlede. Closing in on the DH4s, Voss engaged A7643 crewed by 2/Lts SLJ Bramely (an Australian) and JM DeLacey over Hestas. The confrontation was brief, the DH4 going down south of Roulers on the German side.
Unquote.

There is a biography of Voss that may throw more light on his last victory.

September evening (Voss Bio) is very brief.

its says Heule field was covered in autumn dew and a low mist on 23rd September. Not far from the field voss attacked 57 sqn Airco DH4 at 09:30 german time. The engagement was over in moments and the bomber went down in flames south of Roulers, killing both men. (2 Lt S L Bramley and J M DeLacy. Hope this helps

Thanks for the information. I have two references which state firstly that Voss was flying a borrowed aircraft on the day in question, and secondly that he was in Fokker F1 serial number 103/17. The first is in a US publication from the 1950's and may not be 100% reliable.
Can anyone clarify this?

Tom Crean, who haunts "The Aerodrome" Forum, has just finished writing a bio on Voss, and will probably be able to enlighten you on anything Voss-related. He goes by the name "tcrean7828".
