Zero Hour 5.10 a.m. on the morning of the 3rd.
Attack, the area of the 'Popes Nose'.
To the men of the 1/6th and 1/8th Battalions of the West Yorkshire Regiment, tired men, and 'asked' to do that bit 'too much'.
Ca Ira!
Chris.

God asked of Britain's homes a costly sacrifice,
And these ungrudging paid the price.

Just to add this, and, watching my youngest attend school for the first time today, a young life, 'starting out.'
One of the first cemeteries i ever visited on the Somme was Connaught Cemetery. One grave i always visit, time and time again, Leonard Buckle, 1/5th West Yorks, and, remember. The family, like many others, suffered the loss of very loved ones.
The Buckle Family of Tockwith.
Leonard.
Percival.
Tom.
Gone, but never forgotten.
For me, my family, and my children.
Chris.

Thanks Chris,
How poignant and powerful it is to lift one family from the fog of massive casualty figures to make them real once more.
They are not forgotten.
Cheers,
Nigel
