Can anyone help me find this man and tell me what N G R stands for please,

Matthew LONIE, N.G.R. died December 30 1918.

Any help much appreciated,

Try "NSR" (North staffordshire regiment)...number 24125, Matthew Lonie, discharged 24th Aug 1918

Hi Kevin. This could be your man. Note the S looks like a G. North Staffordshire Reg, looks like he was wounded and discharged.

He has a brief pension record on Ancestry.
1st Garrison Bn North Staffordshire Regt.
Discharged 24/8/18 with "Tubercule Lung Due To" [Service], 100%. Discharge address Clavering St, Paisley.

There's no mention of his death, but if you get his death certificate (from ScotlandsPeople) and it says Tuberculosis, then I'd say you've got a potential Non-Com.

Thanks one and all, death cert is ordered. I think Paisleys roll of honour has a lot more hiding that will be brought in from the cold,

DC arrived he has died of pulmonary tuberculosis, over to you Terry to bring him in,

may I ask where have checked for a burial - I may be able to help as I have become a dab hand at finding graves
