Two new films out this week sound interesting. One about Passchendaele:

another about Richthofen:

Not great reviews I've posted, but still worth a few hours, I guess.

They are in the Times today as well - again not good reviews to say the least.

I searched in the UK Film Council's website to find out which cinemas are showing these films, and for both the closest to me in Edinburgh was in London: Passchendaele is on at the Odeon in Panton St and The Red Baron at the Apollo Piccadilly Cricus

Isn't there a forum member who advised on the film? It would be interesting to hear their opinion. I've not heard any decent reviews about Passchendaele. Obviously something was lost on the way through production.

I wouldn't be bothered to hike out to a cinema to see these two films, but I'll get them on DVD when they become available in the UK. The Red Baron is already available on DVD in a dubbed all-German-language version, but the soundtrack of the movie now showing in British cinemas is evidently the 'rainbow' edition, with all the dialogue in the language it was originally filmed in. Although it is a German production, the German characters actually spoke in English. Having heard the criticisms of this, I'm now wondering whether I might not be better off with the German dubbed version !

Is Passchendaele already available on DVD in the UK ?

Today's Guardian actually lists The Red Baron as The Film to see. Somebody enjoyed it.

Be kind to us here in Canada, as that is where the Passchendaele movie was made. We don't have a lot of great actors, who also play the roll of the director, and probably contributed a lot to the finance.

A GWF member was instrumental in assisting me in finding a "Trench Periscope" that was needed for the film. Of course, neither of us gained any credit for our assistance, not even a copy of the DVD.

It is worth a watch but the military historian (as well as the collector) will of course rip it to shreds.
