BBC 4 had an hour devoted to the Colourists this evening, hosted by Mr. Palin. The WW1 link is via one of the four artists, Francis Cadell who served in the 9th. Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and the 9th. Royal Scots Regiments. His later flamboyant life in Edinburgh was covered, but the best part was the South of France adventure after the War, and its contrast to the 'rubbish dump' of the trenches. His story has a sad ending; not unusual for many artists who sold very little work, and soon spent what little they did.

I know how he feels!
Couldn't find it on iPlayer - do BBC4 programmes end up there?

Your Earliness,
Sadly, for whatever reason, it is not available, though the Peter Capaldi programme that followed, is. I would imagine they'll show it again during the 'Scottish' theming being run at present.
