Continuing the theme of poison gas attacks, here's a great juxtaposition of ancient and modern warfare - a German Lancer in gas mask.
This mix of ancient and modern iconography really appeals to me. I will explore this avenue after the gas series.

Oh my.......!!!!!!!!
Very, very descriptive of the soldier, but I would disagree with Gunny, please finish the horse.
After all, the horse is the transport, the power, and the one in whom the soldier gives his trust to get him the hell out of trouble, once he has been ordered into it.
I know you can do it, EOB.
Just a thought.
Reverse it.
Give the horse the definition and the mask, and fade the soldier.
Now that would be saying something.

Another great piece of art EOB. The pose is spot on and as Gunny points out your use of line works wonders. The horse may not be the focus of detail but I must say even as it stands I certainly wouldn't like to get in its way....it stands like a horse with attitude.
cheers, ET

Hi
I like the figure very much, I have to say that is a monster of a horse.

Thank you everyone for your comments - I appreciate the feedback.
Thank you Ozzie for the thoughts of reversing the emphasis to the horse. I think that this could be whole new avenue to explore. I think a different image would that benefit from that treatment very well. A whole new set of work beckons.
Thanks JP - I'll take the hit – the horse is certainly too large! I looked back at the original photo from which I sketched, and it is quite a beast, but as not big as I drew it.
I do like this image of the Lancer. I wonder how many men fell to that lance tip?
Thanks again chaps.

EoB.

Great work sir! I quite like the fact the horse is rather large - you seem to be vieiwng him from the ground that - gives it a nice prespective.

Beautiful work as always EoB. I think as you say, this image as with the photo, sums up that odd mixture of a world shortly to be gone and a new one emerging.
Superb.

Brilliant work. He looks restful, but ready to go on the attack at any point. The horse reminds me of Gold Flake, my Uncle Arthur's mount on the left.
