I came across an article in the Irish newspapers about a man named Thomas Kennedy of Waterford who is supposed to have died on the Formidable. On the internet I found
KENNEDY, Thomas, Trimmer, RNR, 468 TS, Star of the Empire, 8 January 1915, died in UK. Thomas Kennedy is not on the crew list of the Formidable

I found one in the CWGC but I am not sure if it could be him.
This one beats me. They may be two different men even.
Thanking you in advance.
Kind regards.
Tom.

Thomas Kenedy, Trimmer RNR was a trawlerman, so could not be in FORMIDABLE. The Waterford casualty was this man:-

He was a Shipwright 2nd Class.

Tom.

As indicated by Horatio, a Thomas Kennedy was on the Formidable and on CWGC. Both men are in Don's list on Naval-History.net:

Here is the CWGC entry for the RNR man:

Many thanks for the information but I am still confused. Are there two Thomas Kennedys, one was a trawlerman and the other an 'out in the cold' Formidable Crew member or is there only one Thomas Kennedy and he was a trawlerman and the newspaper got it wrong?
Here is the article, its from the first week in January 1915.

I have sent Terry an email through the IFCP.
Thanks for all the help guys.
Kind regards.
Tom.

Two as far as I can see, Tom. The one mentioned in that article you found, the Royal Navy one who died 1 Jan 1915 on HMS FORMIDABLE (the mention of shipwright in the article matches his rank given on CWGC), and the RNR one who died 8 Jan 1915 on HM Trawler STAR OF THE EMPIRE.

Martin

KENNEDY, THOMAS. Rank: Shipwright, 2nd Class. Regiment or Service: Royal Navy. Unit; H.M.S.Formidable. Date of Death:01-01-1915. Age at Death,40. Date of birth, 16-February-1874. Service No: 344024. Born in Ballytruckle, County Waterford. H. M. S. "Formidable" was struck by a torpedo from German Submarine U-34. 20 minutes later she developed a list of 20 degrees and the Captain ordered the crew to abandon ship. Darkness and a 30 foot swellmade it difficult to get the boats into the water and some fell in to the sea upside down. 25 minutes later the Formidable was struck again by a torpedo and after about an hour or so she looked like she would capsize.
The Captain and his terrier dog were calmly organising the crew to abandon ship when it capsized and turned over on many of the men in the water. 347 of her crew died including the Captain and his little terrier.
