I leave on the 8th Oct and will be back four days later - it really is a last minute flying visit to pay our respects to Uncle Jack.

If you have any photo requests from the memorial or surrounding graves, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best, but I'm no David Bailey!

My great uncle died on 08th Oct 1916 and is commemorated at Thiepval. I've not been to the battlefields yet, but would be very gratefull if you could take me a picture of the monument

I forgot to say, a word of warning if anyone else is going in the next couple of weeks. The front of the memorial walkway is a grassed area and it is currently roped off ( I think they're re-seeding by the looks of it ) but the steps at the bottom of the memorial as you look at it are also roped off and initially when we got there, the sign which direct you down the side and towards the graves at the back and up the steps that way was not visible at all. Just so people don't do what we initially did and panic that the access was closed or something.
