The October edition of 'Down Your Way', Yorkshire's nostalgic magazine is a War Years Special, and despite concentrating on WW2, the first two articles are very much of 'Our' War. Capt. Hepper's son, F Nigel Heffer, formerly of the Herbarium, RBGs, Kew, casts an experienced eye over his father's references to the flora and fauna in and around the fighting zone. There is, too, a wonderful posed photograph of training at Ilkley. There follows a short piece on postcards by David Watkins of Bangor. An example of the verse on a postcard showing a parting scene goes;

Do not sorrow, heart, sweetheart,
Let a soldier's love bear soldier's part
And think how glad the day will be
When thy soldier lad comes back to thee.

Not Baldrick or Owen, but a little Poem all the same, with a clear message.
