That is something very nice to have.
I have a bayonet which belonged to a fellow called Jack Maker.
It was also at Delville Wood.
I find the whole subject awe inspiring......war is the worst of circumstances which allows the best in men out. Having served in the army myself, and in the infantry, I stand in total awe of those men who fought in the trenches. They did it ,I'm sure not without fear, but with such stoicism and fortitude and gallantry. Their story should never be forgotten.

Having lived for awhile in Springs and have two sisters in SA and a brother who served in the army in SA our thoughts go out to the South African Soldiers who came sofar and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Where did your brother serve?
I was in the "meat bombs" aka the paratroopers. Served in ! Para Bn and then in 44 Para Brigade 9 para Bn.
I was active in the 70s and 80s.

I often wander through Delville Wood. I go in the evening when it's quiet. The lads are still there and they will never be forgotten. The leaves are turning brown and gold and falling, and the acorns are falling too, but they fall to rise again. New life, new trees. It is the way of life and of regeneration.
Thanks lads. You fought for the freedom that allows me to do it.
John
