Can anyone please help me identify this photo, I assume it might be somewhere between the Loos area and somewhere on the Somme due to the chalk spoil from the trenches.
My initial thought was that it might Albert, but the large building doesn't look as though it could be the Basilica.

Any ideas ?
Many thanks for any help.

Before I saw your post Chris I said St Quentin as well.

I think that it's the St-Quentin Basilica (before the destruction of its roof by artillery). From Manchester hill ?

Another, reputedly from binoculars in 1917:

Many thanks to you all for your replies, it certainly looks as though it could be St. Quentin.

Good morning All,

It has changed much to this day. When you drive down the A26 and look eastward towards St Quentin, it dominates the landscape.

(From a bit closer - not the A26 !)

Steve,
Thanks for the picture, it looks as though St.Quentin has been a victim of urban expansion, much the same as most towns and cities here in the U.K
