Following up on discussions Michael and I are having on the Anley thread does anybody have any details on the Palestine experiences of the 49th Indian Bde ?

Trying to understand if they were anything more than a stop gap on the way to pulling together the 75th Division.

I know the 58th Vaughans Rifles were a mainstay in the 234th Bde, the 75th Divisional Reserve and one time 232nd bde att'd having tracked their experiences before and during the fighting the Judaean Hills but have little on the rest.

Originally consiting of :

58th Rifles;
1/101st Grenadiers;
1/102nd Grenadiers;
110th Indian Field Ambulance;
1st Garrison Bn., Notts and Derby Regiment (less 2 companies);
1st Garrison Bn., Northampton Regiment.

Led by Lieut. Colonel (temp. Brig General) E. R. B. Murray, I am just staring to dig into their hstory and would appreciate any advise on either the Bde or Murray.

With the help of Philip Wilson it now seems that the residue of the 49th Bde after the departure of the 58th rifles made up the South Canal Section from Feb 1917 - Mar 1918 and that Murray took over as commander for the remainder of its existance.

Many thanks to all who helped me put this together.

Regards
Dave
