Hi Jon, "Airmen Died in the Great War" has Flt Sub Lt Duckworth of Fishguard NAS, killed whilst flying (missing, presumed drowned in the Irish Sea) in Hamble Baby N1461 on the 21st February 1918. With no known grave he is listed on the Chatham Naval Memorial.

Steve

"RN Aircraft Serials and Units" does not agree with this, giving the pilot of N.1461 as FSL VJ Budd. For Duckworth it gives:- N.1457, force landed off Cardigan Island, salved by St Dogmells lifeboat 21/02/1918; FSL Duckworth drowned.

Sorry, my mistake. It was Hamble Baby N1457. I picked up the serial number from the death of FSL V J Budd on the 20th February 1918, immediately above the entry for FSL Duckworth. I stand by the rest of the information as being correct according to "Airmen Died . . .".

Nothing definite, but the only likely candidate on FRee BMD was born in Brighton

Births Jun 1899 Duckworth Cyril Gordon Brighton 2b 222

There is an 11 year old Cyril G Duckworth on the 1911 census, living in Croydon (born in Brighton).

If this is the case, I suspect his parents are;

Marriages Mar 1899

Bickford Jessie Grant (age c21) Islington 1b 483 (born Tayport, scotland)
Duckworth Lawrence (age c32) Islington 1b 483 (Barrister)

(You do the maths)

Might not be him, but there's a good chance.
