Any idea what this round feature is at the top of Bazentin le Petit?

Mick,

Strongpoint surrounded by barbedwire.

A useful site is http://www.1914-1918.net/intrenches.htm where similar indications are shown both as strong points and in one instance as a village (bottom right of fig.1 on the link page)

Strongpoint yes but very small and doen't bear any relationship to anything else nor does it appear when comparing other maps to be on a rise or other obvious point.

Sorry, I can't help you with the round thingy... but I do know the names of the 2 trenches emerging from the south-west corner of Bazentin-le-Petit Wood, or the bottom left hand corner of your map.

The upper one is 'Aston Trench' and the lower one... wait for it now... it's called 'Villa Trench'.

Now how do you think I should happen to know that???

Is it a quarry, I wonder?

Its ok I have found it marked on another TM as KOYLI Redoubt. The trench adjacent is Scotch Alley. Many thanks for responses.
