My Great Uncle Wilfred Rogers died today in 1915, on the Loos battlefield.

My Dad laid a wreath at his grave in St. Mary's ADS last month - I hope it is still there. I think my Dad's words sum up what I'm thinking:

RIP Uncle Wilfred.

It is a strange feeling being able to do this as, until recently, I knew very little about him. Now (thanks to Niall Cherry's book) I have details of the incident in which he died. A huge increase in knowledge in a short time.

Soldiers died shows him as "Gdsman" when the rank wasnt recreated until much later in the Coldstream and other casaualites are "private" - CWGC shows "private" - must be a Grenadier thing...

He's Guardsman on the gravestone - I'd thought of him as 'private' until I saw it!

Remembering.

Thank you for the freedom that I enjoy.

RIP
