The idea was to advance from the Chocolate Hill area on to Ismail Oglu Tepe (ie Hill W) but the battalion ended up fighting for Scimitar Hill.

Heavy confused fighting from about 4;10am until 12:15pm, until the battalion fell back to a line running roughly Hill 50-Sulajik. If I remember correctly some allegations of other units not being overly disciplined.

The scrub caught ablaze, many wounded burnt alive, some allegedly bayonetted by the enemy. Capt P Hansen awarded VC for venturing into the flames to bring several wounded in.

Buckley would have enlisted mid Nov 1914 (likley 10-13th) and was initially reported missing, presumed killed.

Should be several other threads on the forum to flesh out the details.
