Hi,
Any help with the following much appreciated.
I came across a report (Salford Reporter) today dated Oct 12th 1918.
Lance Corp Fred Dorber of the Devon Regiment (19 years old) died of wounds at the Queen Mary Hospital. The wound was from a bullet in the wrist. Had previously been wounded and suffered shell shock. Brother Jack, South Lancs Regiment, died April 1916.
Brother Jack is;
John Henry Dorber - Private - 19507 South Lancashire Regiment 6th Battalion. Killed in action 19/04/1916 aged 20. Commemorated at Basra Memorial panel 23.
Here is Fred 1901 census;
Name: Fred Dorber
Age: 1
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1900
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Richard
Mother's Name: Grace
Gender: Male
Where born: Salford, Lancashire, England
Civil parish: Salford
Ecclesiastical parish: Ordsall in Salford St Clement
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Same parents as John Henry Dorber.
The only MIC I can find gives:
F Dorber Devonshire Regiment, Military Foot Police 32448, P17258
I have ran the service numbers through Geoff's search engine and the name through SDGW and CWGC to no avail.
Should he be on CWGC?

Garry

Fred Dorber - Private - 32448 Devon Regiment and later with the Military Foot Police (P17258). He lived at 35 Regent Square, Salford.
It's odd that he's not mentioned here;

Garry,
I'm sure it will not be long until the guru's from IFCP see this and may be able to give you an answer, or at least point you in the right direction.
Cheers Andy.

Hi,
Before any effort is put into this let me do some more local research as I have found a marriage for a Fred Dorber in 1926 (Salford).

I assume that "Queen Mary Hospital" is the one at Whalley? If so, then there is no death registered in England for Fred Dorber in 1918, so maybe the newspaper report was erroneous. I have not tried other spellings of his surname though and it is strange that he should appear on a memorial in Salford.

Andy,
I am researching the memorial in Salford. The memorial has four sides, the men on the front Died due to the war and those on the other three sides "came home". As the memorial was unveiled before the war's end I am finding men who died after the unveiling date.

The marriage certificate should give his age - allowing you to rule him in or out as being our man. Without any sign of a death certificate, this is going nowhere by way of a submission to CWGC.
