I am attempting to find out more about my Grandfather's Great War service. Unfortunately his record is one of the so-called burnt records and currently I have only his medal record cards to go on.

The story so far is as below.

Herbert Ludlam enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Sheffield on 7th September 1914. His first unit no. was 34. His later no. was 410033 which is part of the block allocated to the 3rd Northern General Hospital based in Sheffield. Family history says that he was with this unit in 1917/1918 but I do not know if he joined them on enlistment in 1914. However as I understand they were formed in 1913 this is probably the case.

The 3rd Northern General Hospital never left England but his medal index card shows that he arrived in Gallipoli on 18th September 1915. Family history says that he served as a cook but he contracted dysentery (not the best of conditions for a cook!) and was invalided back to Sheffield.

I am trying to find out with which unit he served with at Gallipoli. Is it possible to find out what RAMC unit/reinforcements arrived in Gallipoli on 18/09/15.

I have been to Gallipoli before and intend to return hopefully knowing in which area he served
