I got the attached photograph from a local chap (Ian Lewis) who is assiduously recording Cumbria's war memorials. However, just who it was awarded to and the circumstances are a bit of a mystery.

As far as I can tell;

...............There was no I Teasdale who served in the 9th King's Own

...............There was no I Teasdale who was awarded the D.C.M.

...............The only I Teasdale I know of who worked for the Furness Railway was in the 1/Border and was killed at Gallipoli in 1915.

Basically I'm stumped by this one. Any ideas?

TNA lists a number of Teasdales with the Royal Lancaster Regiment but none with the initial I.

I have the King's Own Medal Rolls - none of them served in the 9th Bn. either and none were awarded the DCM.

Could the Distinguished Conduct Medal relate to an unoffical Railway company medal and not the Distinguished Conduct Medal?

I found this ... and it says he's in the 2nd Border Regiment ! ( though you already know about him - in a different battalion !! )

The box says that it was presented to him for services between 1914 and 1916. That man died in 1915.

Don't think so - not the way the inscription is written.

There must have been somebody who fulfilled the basic military criteria for the company to have made the effort in the first place, but I'm dam*ned if I can work out who it was angry.gif

He initially served in the 2nd Battalion, got sent home from France (suffering from frostbite) and then got posted to the 1st Battalion and went to Gallipoli. The Furness Railway memorial tends to record the original unit rather than the one the men were actually with when they died.
