A number of years ago before Geoff,s search engine I took a interest in this action.
I was able to locate a few of the identified fatalities from the 19th in cemeteries around Fleurbaix
but none from the 20th.
There are a few men buried in Sainghin -en-Weppes Communal Cemetery from the Royal Irish
dating from late October who died as P.o.w,s and probably were captured on the 20th at Le Pilly.
Besides Sainghin do any of the others have identified graves?

I was just wondering,
My Relation Joseph Cavanagh 9634 was in the 2nd Battlion.
Would he have fought in the battle of le Pilly.He died in 1917 and his Name is on the Dorian Memorial belonging to the 5th Battlion.
It seems strange that he was moved fron the 2nd Battlion to the 5th

It would probably be better to open an enqiry in the 'soldiers' sub forum. If Joseph Cavanagh was with the battalion at the time he was probably at the battle.
Men were regularly moved between battalions. As the 5th ended up as pioneers and Lines of Communication troops, it may be a way of him remaining with the regiment rather than go to the Labour Corps of other unit.

May they all Rest in Peace.

I will remember. These brave lads gave up more than can be said or known.
