Hi All,

It's my first post so it might start off a tad sketchy.

Trying to get abit of background to my Grandad activities during his service, going by his discharge papers his first unit that he was posted to was the Northampton Regiment, but then I have Battilion Orders with the heading 3rd Battilion Nigeria Regiment.

If anyone could point me in some good directions to look I would be really grateful.

Got an assortment of pictures and letters and that's all I am afraid.

PS. sorry about the size wacko.gif

Most probably served in German East Africa attached to Ngerian Reg during late 1917 and 1918.

Photos interesting especially the gun, dont have details to hand.

Oh I have a few of the guns, not good quality pics tho.

It seems that he was under the command of a Captain J. Crookenden of the Cross River Column N.F.F. on the 4th Nov 1915 where they apparently met the enemy.

Thank you for the welcome, I'll have to sort some out as I know he took a few.
He was a Color Seargent, so probably swaned around all day rolleyes.gif

My brother has a really large group photo hanging on his wall, all the chaps sitting crossed legged in front with MG's and they must go back standing 6 high, would be something if your Grandfather was in it, all i have to do is get it off his wall devilgrin.gif

There are numerous files at the NA covering the operations on the Cameroon border and Togoland. These would be more pertinent to the information you have I feel.

He may not have ended up in East Africa of course.

Interestingly I am going to write an article on the activities of the Cross River Column.

On 6 September 1914 the British force fought a battle at Nsanakang on the south bank of the Cross River but the Germans won the fight.
British casualties were heavy.

What was your relative's name?

Please may I use your photos to illustrate my article?

Hi Harry,
By all means you can use the photos, would it be possible to see your paper or a link to it when done as I would like to find out more about it.
I cannot tell you if the photos match the year.

I have the Battilion orders in 1915 but not for 1914.

Also a picture of the whole 3rd Regiment ( I think )

In that year he was Sergeant Frederick Dye

Send me an e-mail and I see what I have

Thanks.
I will certainly send you a copy of the article.

Please could you email what photos you have to:
harryfecitt@googlemail.com

It will probably be next year before I have the article ready.
