He does not appear on any war memorial in war memorial in Wavertree nor indeed on any memorial in Liverpool that I am aware of.

There are Lawrensons on the Liverpool Town Hall Roll of Honour, but none with initial 'J'.

Hi
Is he definitely on a Memorial in Liverpool? There's a Pte.J Lawrenson TR/3/17585 d.29.5.17 aged 17yrs on CWGC @ Willows (St. John.) R.C. Churchyard. Doesn't give town but I think may be Kirkham,Preston.

The nearest CofE church looks like St Bridget's, Bagot Street. Their memorial plaque is recorded by the National Inventory of War Memorials, c/o Imperial War Museum, under reference:
ST BRIDGETS CHURCH ROLL OF HONOUR
UKNIWM Ref: 15750

They may be able to tell you about the names recorded. I am certain that the church will not be open for casual visits.

I can also feel a trip coming on to the central library

Spoke to a friend of mine who researches Memorials for the National Inventory there is no James Lawrenson on the St Bridgets War Memorial.

Izzy, thanks for the update, as Joe states he is probably not listed on a memorial in Liverpool, hope i can find something at the library when i plan a visit, Geoff

You will find little on this subject at the Liverpool Record Office/Central Library, I am sorry to say. They have an unofficial list of names of those kia/dow culled from the Evening Express [one of the two evening papers of that time] which can act as a partial index to the filmed newspaper reports, available at the Record Office desk but it is a long way from comprehensive and does not include any detail of memorials.
If it is more than detail of the memorial you seek, please let me know - I can enquire at a very helpful local family history society site. They have turned up a few obscure details for me.

Geoff,

To possibly save you an unnecessary trip I have access to what is probably the most complete (nb I do not claim exhaustive) database of the names of war memorials on Merseyside. This database now stands at more than 42,000 names of men from both WW1 and WW2. Your man does not appear in the listing - I hold the names of 101 men on the St Bridget memorial and there is no Lawrenson on there.

Three years ago I purchased/rescued a Wavertree area war memorial from a well known auction site to give back to the community at no cost - disappointingly despite many emails, appeals and phone calls no one in Liverpool is interested in putting it back into the community and it now lies in my brother's garage on Merseyside.

Daggers/Promenade, thanks for the help, it is sad to hear about the memorial but at least it has been saved for the future. Daggers if the family research society does hold anything it would be great to hear from them, eveything helps, Geoff

I have had a response about your Lawrenson query, but negative as far as memorials are concerned. A keen ferret has found much material about a possible family, with dates of birth registration etc. If you would like it I will PM it to you.

I fear that if Promenade has no record of a local memorial entry, there is unlikely to be one.

I think you are more than right with promenade with the memorials, have sent pm and email address, Geoff
